Types of Verify & Attested
In practice there are 3 types:
- 1. Hard copy attestation: Institutions inside Bangladesh usually ask for an attested hard copy (photocopy). Only National University can attest it. Since 2024 the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs no longer attest hard copies.
- 2. By Email Verification: Some foreign universities ask the awarding institution to send your certificate directly from its official email. NU provides this service. You get no hard copy; NU verifies the certificate and emails it from its official address to your chosen institution.
- 3. Digital copy attestation (Apostille): If you want to submit your certificate abroad, they may ask for a copy attested by National University, the Education Ministry and the Foreign Ministry. For that you attest a digital copy through myGov.bd, which is called an Apostille.
Attestation vs Apostille
| Verify & Attestation | Apostille |
|---|---|
| A hard copy (original or photocopy) is attested | No hard copy. A digital copy is issued and kept permanently on myGov.bd |
| Not accepted by most foreign universities | Compulsory especially for most institutions in Europe/America |
| Accepted by almost all government and private institutions | Not applicable |
| National University only | National University, Education Ministry and Foreign Ministry together |
